Barristan Selmy, the newly appointed squire for Lord Manfred Swann, always had high hopes of attaining knighthood.  It was the one thing that he always wanted.  He needed some way to get recognized.  Entering a jousting tournament sounded like a great idea at the time.  All he needed to do was win a match or two, and surely everything else would fall into place.
