Arya Stark posted an update in the group
Writer's Lounge 10 months, 1 week ago Before I have it all settled and finalized, (and posted) I just wanted to ask for anyone’s opinion. I’ve read through a lot of forums, and had many discussions with people online/off line. In an attempt to make my story a little more solid, and not have 1 million and a half haters, (There are people that like the Lyanna and Robert pairing.) I went through my ideas and came to one solid option on how to put something in there to show Robert as something more than an angry drunk man. So I came up with this, it’s based on things I’ve read that float around the internet and some things from the books. So, let me know what you think, good or bad:
After the Melee they were supposed to find Brandon, since he was technically supposed to be responsible for their sister but they had a difficult time. They had however found Robert Baratheon, Ned had insisted he wanted to explain to his friend why they left the melee early, and he seemed to take the news reasonably well.“If I didn’t win I wouldn’t of wanted her to see anyway.” Robert had said dismissively. “At least this way she’s not disappointed.”
Since Brandon was nowhere to be found, the three of them walked together. There was an awkward silence for awhile, where Lyanna only wanted to stay close to Ned, he held his arm tighter. After a while it became too much for Robert to handle and he looked over at her and past his friend.
“Has my Lady been entertained?” he asked.
“Yes, I’m very happy. Although I must admit, I would have liked to participate in some of the festivities. But I am very glad I was allowed to attend.”
“Aw, come on Ned. Let your sister have some fun!” Robert laughed.
The air seemed to lighten and she smiled at her brother. “I think she’s had more than enough fun. Our father had said…”
“Come on, who gives a shit, he’s not here. Your father won’t hear anything from us and I don’t mind her getting her hands dirty if she wants. It’s all good harmless fun.”
He sighed. “It is, it is all good harmless fun, until she hurts herself.”
“She’s not going to hurt herself.” Robert scoffed. “She told your brother a thing or two about throwing an axe. She’s more competent than most squires here.”
She giggled. “I hadn’t known my Lord was listening.”
“I hadn’t been trying to listen. Your laughter just drew me in. Come on Ned, let her try. I have one with me.We’ll just see her throw it at that tree.”
“Absolutely not.” Ned argued. “She’ll hurt herself.”
Robert took the hand axe from his belt and handed it to her. When her hands closed around it he held her hands and smiled. “She’s fine.” He called to Ned, “She has a good grip, her fingers aren’t near the blade.”
“Robert…” He warned but his friend wasn’t listening.
“Now where should she aim?” He lead her back a little and more toward the center of the big tree.
“You need to stop this, if Brandon sees…” He tried again.“Brandon can go away. Let me try, just this once?” She begged.
Ned sighed. It didn’t seem like he had any say in the matter. Robert stuck his dagger in the tree to mark the center then went back to them.
“Use the knife as a reference point.” He told her, then she lifted the axe and threw it. But it had been heavier than the one Benjen had yesterday. It didn’t go far at all before it fell to the ground. Robert laughed. “Not as easy as you thought? You’ll get it this time.” He teased.
He went back to retrieve it, and as soon as he bent down to pull it out of the tree he heard a hard smack right by his head. When he looked to see a dagger with a wolf carved in the hilt.
“I’m not stopping our lesson until she wants me to Ned.” He told his friend as he pulled the knife from the tree. When he turned back to them he shrugged.
“That isn’t mine, she threw it at you.”
Robert started to laugh. “Worried about her hurting herself throwing axes. She throws knives like a professional!” He gave her back the dagger and then offered her the axe again.
“Thank you my Lord.” Robert stood next to her. She held the axe with both hands, adjusted her grip to just one and tossed it toward the tree. This time it only struck slightly off target.
This time he grinned. A plan seemed to form in his mind as he took the axe from the tree and brought it back to her. “Want some help this time?”
She said nothing and watched him curiously as he put the axe back into her hand and his hands closed around hers. Then he pulled her closer toward himself.
“Robert…” Ned stepped forward to try and separate them. However he hadn’t gotten far when Lyanna put her hand on his chest and pulled away from him. “My Lord, I’ll be fine.”
Almost as if to prove a point, she swung the axe and it hit its mark. Her brother felt some relief. That was until he turned and saw Brandon coming towards them. Naturally he was furious. He glanced back at Lyanna and Robert. She looked like she was listening to him recount a story of some training, or maybe the Melee. Either way he swung the axe around in an attempt to look more impressive. They both shared a laugh together, and he hoped for the sake of everyone Brandon’s voice would not carry loudly through the woods.
“What are you doing?”
“Trying to talk to you.”
“You do not leave her unattended! The last time I made the same mistake, she kissed my squire!”
“She’s fine.”
“She’s a nuisance.”
“Brandon, why is she here if not to be seen by him?”
He stared past his brother, and started forward nearly knocking him to the ground. When Ned looked back, Lyanna had Robert’s warhammer. Then Robert pulled Lyanna close his hands closed around hers and it looked like he was showing her how to swing the hammer from side to side. His head leaned in towards hers, for a moment Ned thought he might kiss her but he only whispered close to her ear. It had however made her smile, the scene distracted him from the fact his brother was on the warpath, he’d have to hurry to put a stop to it.
