House Fossoway: "Better Green than Rotten."

Confronted with the battles of the Stormlands on behalf of his grandfather, Prince Raymond Fossoway proudly rode alongside his father, King Aren Fossoway alongside a force of two thousand foot and five hundred horse strong, the marching men traveling up the Kingsroad from Storm’s End to Bronzegate, the seat of power of House Buckler. It was said that Bronzegate was supported by several towns nearby itself, with House Errol to the north east in Haystack Hall and House Fell to their west near the Felwood. What was evident upon the Reachmen army’s approach were the fluttering banners of green apples on a yellow field, for the army was almost insufferable when carrying it. Emblazoned on the coat of arms, gazing across and stopping before the castle, looking upon the three buckles on a field of blue.

King Aren Fossoway at this time was a man who rested firmly in his mid forties, a man with a somewhat scraggly and wild beard with soft chestnut eyes and a warm vibrance to him in this period of time, standing a few inches shorter than his son. Raymond firmly rode up to his side as they awaited to be greeted by the Bucklers personally, the forces of the realm prepared to take the instability of rapid Lannister expansion to carve out portions of the land itself for the Stormlands, a war for claimancy of land which formerly belonged to the Stormlands for thousands of years whilst the Riverlands too pushed to claim pieces of land for themselves.

“Watch yourself Raymond on the field of battle. We have many skilled houses to help us in the battles to come, but know that this by all means is not our home. We’ve come to answer our noble obligation to your grandfather, and to your mother. Not to slaughter their enemies.” The seventeen year old Raymond in this frame looked on ahead, high upon his horse as he holds the reigns and lightly pulls them inward as he pulls them for a stop. Dark of hair and eyes, a powerful and imposing body with strength that was natural of the Baratheon line. Well trimmed and cut with bear grease used to hold it in place as he pauses, surveying his surrounding.

“I will. I won’t disappoint you, but there’s plenty of glory to be won in the war to come. Though. We should have called upon the banners to answer their oaths to join us.” A pause as Aren momentarily smiles, relaxed, but reassures his son with a firm pat along the shoulder. “I know you might feel that way. However, this is not a war to show dedication to the Storm King and his cause for expansion so much as it is a war to help our family. That, and the Reach must be secure both from internal threats, and to those ahead of us that may wish to harm us. Do not forget that Raymond.” A light roll of his head before he acknowledges the words of his father. “Of course. I don't doubt your words of wisdom and I understand. It just means our House needs to stand ever more firmly and strong in the face of adversity.”

With eyes to expansion, the Stormlands sought to take advantage of the chaos in the Crownlands. While the Kingdom of the Rock marched on King’s Landing, the Storm King clutched at the lands below. With intent on the annexation of the Kingswood, the Stormlander army marched north.

However, the Houses of Bywater, Chyttering, Pyle, and Blount, would not so easily bend their knees. To remain independent, the Lords of the Kingswood raised an army seven-hundred strong, and marched to intercept the aggressors.

Upon reaching the battlefield, the Kingswood army deployed in a defensive formation. Numbering but half their opponent's, the four Lords knew that victory would not come from an aggressive attack.

Five hundred green apples and a thousand Stormlanders had gathered, an amalgamation of banners from the area, standing before the army of men from the Kingswood. Nearly double their forces as the three armies stare each other down, and with it, as the Knights dismount, King Fossoway would proceed to do the same as would Raymond, and with it, a servant boy attendant would be sent forward, and with it, the boy would step forward, not a combatant in any sense, but someone paid to deliver the message. A boy of three and ten, approaching the Lords of the Kingswood, the mounted Knights before them.

“A parley is requested Milords. If...you would humor one that is.” The Reachman army stood alongside the larger Stormlander one to their right, their spread formation making them seem possibly more numerous than they might have in one formation, each group of men likely standing a fair distance apart from one another, and if the parley was accepted, King Fossoway would ride forth with around half his personal guard meet the Lords before him to discuss a hopeful term of surrender. The King Fossoway would ride forth inbetween both battlegrounds and armies to make a short, but hopefully meaningful conversation. What was it that the Kingswood men would see?

For the Fossoways. Two hundred Reach Shielded Swordsmen standing in a straight long line, and immediately behind them rest Pikemen between every two men, their longer weapons held in hand, but likely to take advantage of their shielded allies before them and to give them an edge at keeping the spearmen or enemies at bay or to get sharp jabs in between the openings of this turtle like defense formation. Behind them rest the archers in groups of twenty, bows in hand, quivers of arrows sharply along their backs with cavalry split into two groups of fifty.

The much larger Stormlander host boasted a hundred shielded spearmen with two groups of shielded a hundred Shielded Swordsmen at their flanks, two more groups of shielded spearmen behind them with matching kite shields. Tightly formed to likely either support the swordsmen in phalanx form and or to form defensive formation along their larger body of archers behind them. Five groups of forty. At the rear to guard them were two hundred shielded axes, likely to charge and flank behind enemies when engaged, and behind those further still were two groups of fifty cavalry. The army looked intimidating without a doubt, their larger numbers.

However, men who were tenacious to defend their homeland and independence might not think in such a manner. It was time to see.

So be it.” Lord Bywater replied.

The Lords of the Kingswood strode forth, followed in toe by their guard. At the half-way point, they met with the opposing Lords.

Greetings, King…” Lord Bywater paused. “Is it King Fossoway?” He asked, with a smile most wry. “You’ll have to excuse my ignorance. I did not think that a King would come scurrying at the beck and call of another.

In truth, there was little to gain from this discussion. The army of the Storm King would not return empty-handed, and the Kingswood would not allow themselves to be so easily subjugated. A battle was inevitable.

However, there was intent behind Lord Bywater’s words: frustration. A frustrated commander is an angry commander, and an angry commander is sloppy. Of the Baratheon-line, one could assume the Apple King's fuse was as short as his forefather’s.

Deliver us your master's terms, Apple King.

Aren Fossoway was level headed. He could hardly be upset, and with it, the man when meeting the Lord of the Kingswood, the Bywater would proceed to look upon the man and reflect his thoughts and actions. "King works fine. Thank you. Though I do see your point. I do suppose...you'd understand if you were in my shoes. Sadly...that isn't the case." Not saying much more than that, he proceeds to momentarily reflect on the considerations before putting on a friendly smile and a laugh at the thought that King Baratheon, his father in law could be considered his master. No. That wasn't it at all. It was an obligation of family. Of love, and of an understanding that brought him here.

"The terms are rather simple, but I'm not here to simply shout demands at you and expect you to follow them. No." He firmly notes before looking about the Lords of the Kingswood, the sworn bannermen of Lord Bywater most likely. "I've come to formally request that the Lords of the Kingswood bend the knee to the Stormlands. To swear fealty to the House Baratheon, and by doing so save the hundreds of men we've all gathered here today. As well as to improve your quality of life as well." That said, Aren Fossoway firmly gazes across from him, to the other end of the field.

"There's much benefit to gain by joining. To bend peacefully. There's everything to gain in fact. I could go over those details with you. However, I want you to consider this first. Before you call me puppet or any other derogatory." He firmly notes before firmly resting himself along the tabletop. "We as men all have things we want to protect. Those men standing behind you in the field. They are proud, brave, and honorable men. The fact they stand in a field before an army double their size, knowing thousands more could be arriving within the morrow is testament to that. However, you don't want to make enemies with the Stormlands and entirety of the Reach. Do you?"

He asks with a pained inflection in his voice, a compassion for his fellow man as he looks about himself towards the lesser sworn vassals as well, to get them to consider and think about those choices as well. After all. Whether or not there was a bending knee or not, they would still be in the same position right? Underneath Lord Bywater. Would they be willing to fight and die for him when they could bend peacefully and experience the prospect of improved quality of life or benefits under a greater power? He proceeds to try to be suave. Utilize his Reachman charm to make them think. Come up with conclusions of their own.

"I don't want to disrespect those brave men and boys that have come to face us today, for they probably came steeled and prepared to die. I'm certain of it. However, those people there. They have hopes of maintaining an independence perhaps, but they have families as well. Homes to tend. If they found out that we had given you a peaceful alternative to fighting...Well..." Giving pause, he remained passive in his offers, to make them think about potential possibilities, and to make them believe they've come up with the conclusions by themselves. Now was the time to wait.

A request made at the end of a sword is no request at all.” Lord Bywater replied.

You dip your words in honey, Apple King, though it does little to mask the rotten taste.” He said with visible disgust. “You are invaders, come to take our land. Pretentious ones at that.

For what claim does your Storm King press?” He asked, rhetorically. “That over four-hundred years ago we bowed to the Durrandons? Hmph. The weakest of claims, to be sure.

My father was a Crownlander, as was his. For four-hundred years, my family has been Crownlanders. I’ll not spit on their graves.

What of you, my Lords?” Lord Bywater asked.

I’ll not kneel before your fookin’ Storm King!” Lord Blount exclaimed.

    Aye.” The other Lords agreed.

We may fall, yes.” Lord Bywater began. “But we fall as proud, brave, and honorable men who fought against the tyranny of shameful, cowardly, and dishonorable Kings.

He sought to take measure of those before him, and was left wanting. “When the next King comes for your lands, I do wonder if you’ll heed their words.” Lord Bywater said, as he returned to his men.
