The abrupt motion of the knight turning away from the red-haired girl caught my eye. He was making his way towards the hooded one over in the corner. It startled me when I saw his face. “Jorah…” I said under my breath. I glanced over at where he going. “Why is he…” then I saw what he must have saw. Her hair. The slightest flash of that Targaryen hair showed dimly in the candle light.

I got up and blocked Jorah’s path and said softly, “I don’t think she wants to see you, Jorah,” my hand firmly grasped on the hilt of my sword as I kept a watchful eye on the other person interested in Her Grace.

Something didn’t sit well with that maester. The chain about his neck looked…odd. Not wrong, just odd. I’m no expert on maesters of the Citadel so I thought nothing of it.

I knew Jorah would never hurt her, but this other one…

Ygritte quickly put herself between the two men, looking at each in turn.

“Quick now.” She told them in a hushed but firm voice. “Don’t be fightin’ each other! Go protect her from that old man who’s up ta no good!” She gave each a push toward the old man and followed.

  • Profile picture of Gendry Gendry said 11 months, 2 weeks ago:

Gendry, well into his cups at this point, turned from the hooded girl and headed towards the red head in the corner, only to catch a glimpse of a red flash in front of him. Realizing, the red blur was the red-headed wildling, Gendry stood confused for a moment. “I didn’t even see her get up,” he thought to himself.
Margorie appeared in front of the drunken blacksmith and asked “Are you ok, Gendry?”
Turning his attention to the busty serving wench, Gendry smiled, bent over, and put his right arm on the small of the wench’s back. He slid his left forearm behind the girl’s knees and scooped her up effortlessly. He burried his head into her breasts, causing her to spill the drinks she was carrying. “I am now !” he bellowed in reply. Margorie, laughing, and kicking her feet, threw back her head, and declared out loud, “Well then, let’s go, Blacksmith !”
As Gendry turned to make his leave with Margorie craddled in his arms, he passed the old man, now wearing a maester’s chain. “That’s no maester’s chain,” Gendry thought to himself, “it wasn’t made in Oldtown, that’s for sure, that chain was made in King’s Landing. Why would someone have a fake maester’s chain made?” Having other things on his mind, the blacksmith brushed the thought off and disappeared through a curtained doorway with Margorie in tow. Some of the patrons started banging there cups on the tables yelling “The Bull ! The Bull ! The Bull !”

As the lusty couple disappeared behind the curtain draped over the doorway, an arm pushed it open from the other side. Into the room stepped a man wearing a panelled gray and crimson cloak. He had on boiled leather boots that ran halfway up his thighs. His hauberk was shiny and clean. His face was not exceptionally striking, one that could get lost in a crowd.
The man walked up close behind the old maester and leaned in slightly, not enough to be noticed, but close enough to whisper into the back of the old man’s head. Without moving his lips, or missing a step, he said, “A man should consider his surroundings before doing the thing he wishes to do.”
He continued walking, making eye contact with no one. Having gone completely unnoticed, he continued on his way and walked out of the front door of the inn.

  • Profile picture of Qyburn Qyburn said 11 months, 2 weeks ago:

Things were moving rapidly, in a few seconds the entire room had changed and his plan needed to change with it. The whisper in his ear had caught him by surprise; the most unnerving part was he had no clue where the whisper had come from. He stopped in his steps took a quick glance around the room to see where it may have come from, the chanting of Bull made it difficult to even pin down any sound.
He dismissed the whisper but decided to take its advice, he looked at the two warriors who now blocked his path to the Targaryen girl, he stood as straight as his old body would let him and put on his most helpful and kindly smile. This was the smile and posture which had many Lords daughters calling him Grandfather when he had actually been a Maester. He walked up to the warriors making mental notes of their swords and armour their faces etc… Anything which may come in use later, he stopped in front of them both and gave a respectful bow. He had learnt quickly that a bit of flattery and bowing made people think better of you. “Greetings gentlemen, I am guessing we have all noticed the same thing perhaps?”

  • Profile picture of Daenerys Targaryen Daenerys Targaryen said 11 months, 1 week ago:

The seemingly false Maester was no longer approaching me, though it was clear he wanted my blood. Will I ever be able to walk freely again, without the threat of death? I had given up my claim, not that I had wished to. It was so much easier having everyone believe I died in Meeren. Still, I was afraid to look up, so many faces here were familiar, none more so that my two Queens guard, both of whom I had abandoned. The last I had seen of Ser Barristan, was the fighting pits in Meeren, Ser Barristan had watched me leave upon the back of a dragon, spitting flames, he thought me dead no doubt. And Ser Jorah? It had been far to long, though I still remembered each line upon his face as if I had not been a day without him. I wished not to cause a scene, though clearly this was unavoidable. Slowly standing up, I removed my hood and looked over at the two knights. “Ser Jorah, Ser Barristan!” I called out. The tavern looked at me as if a ghost had just risen.

My grip tightened around the hilt of my sword as the maester approached me and Ser Jorah. Before I could reply to this strange old man I heard that sweet familiar voice behind me. I have longed to hear that voice ever since she took off in Meeren.

In one deft motion I unsheathe my sword, grab the maester by his robe and bring the edge of the sword to his neck. I slowly turn us around to face Her Grace.

“My queen,” I nod my head slightly. “This maester has business with you. I don’t trust him.”

  • Profile picture of Qyburn Qyburn said 11 months, 1 week ago:

He felt the cold touch of the steel on his neck, he was a hard man to intimadate working with the Brave Compaions did that to a man. He kept his face impassive as he was thrust infront of the Targareyn girl, he looked at her now no longer hooded and couldn’t believe it had taken him so long to see her for what she was. Tipping his head ever so slightly so not to cut himself on the warriors blade.
“It is a honour to come before you Targareyn Queen, I just wished your guard here was not so over zealous in his duties”

  • Profile picture of Ser Barristan the Bold Ser Barristan the Bold said 11 months, 1 week ago:

“There’s no such thing as being over zealous in one’s duties, maester. Especially when it comes to being a Queensguard.”

Many decades of duty in the Kingsguard had taught me that lesson very well. Never become complacent. Anybody can harm a king or queen; even a crafty maester.

  • Profile picture of Rattleshirt Rattleshirt said 11 months, 1 week ago:

A man, dressed plainly and wearing an animal pelt hat, came through the door of the inn. A man in a red and gray cloak bumped his shoulder, on his way out the door. Neither man acknowledge the other. No glances were exchanged and no words were spoken. It seemed as if each man had other business on his mind and cared not to be engaged otherwise.
The man in the pelt hat stood on the front stoop by the entrance and surveyed the room. “Damn Kneelers !” He thought to himself. He seemed to be looking for someone in particular. He also seemed to be looking for something in general, taking stock of the occupants in the inn. He located a table near where a young woman, an old maester, and a couple of knights were standing, engaged in a conversation of sorts. “This oughts be good,” Rattleshirt thought to himself.

Seeing the flash of steel, Bardy sprang into action. He grabbed his club and jumped over the bar and headed towards where the trouble was brewing. This stuation was not foriegn to him. Anytime you mix men and women and good ale, you have the potential to have a problem. But Bardy ran a good operation and learned years ago, that with a bit of diplomacy, most situations could be defused before they had gone too far. As he headed towards the knights, the maester and the young girl, he met the eyes of many of his patrons. They all understood the situation could get out of hand and began to gather around, non-threatening, just to show support for their favorite barkeep and singer.

Bardy put himself in between Qyburn and Ser Barristan, holding one hand out, as if to stop traffic, holding his club low in the other hand. First turning to one, then turning to the other, he raised his voice in song:
    “Good Ser, Good Knight,
    Please sheath your blade,
No one need die here today.
    Old maester, I think
    U should unthink
    What your thinking
    So that we all
May get back to our drinkin’”
Bardy turned to acknowlege the crowd.
    “This Bear may look old,
    But fierce I am told.
This girl he intends to protect.
    So, step back my friend
Enjoy a drink in this inn,
Its ale, if I do recollect.”
    Bardy then turns to Danearys.
    “Young lady, I fear
    You’ve caused a stir here.
For this, I do not claim you at fault.
    But it shall be you
    Who pays me my due
If this does not come to a halt.”
Bardy looks up to address the whole room.
    “I think
    The bad thinks
    Have now been unthunk,
So everyone drink and get your ass drunk !”
To which, the tavern let out a loud roar, and began chanting “Bardy ! Bardy ! Bardy !

When Daenerys revealed herself Ser Jorah instantly felt a surge of emotions… Her voice nearly bringing tears to his eyes.~
“The gods are good… You are safe.” he said, smiling warmly at Daenerys.
He turned to Ser Barristan, who was interrogating the suspicious looking old man. “Surely Ser Barristan has been of great help to you.”
Ser Jorah looked back at Dany, searching her eyes for emotion, unsure… ~Does she hate me? Will she hear me out?
“I have been praying to the old gods and the new that I may have a chance to speak with you once more”, he said to Daenerys in a soft voice.
~Meanwhile, the barkeep attempted to mediate the conflict in the room with song…

  • Profile picture of Ygritte Ygritte said 11 months, 1 week ago:

Amidst the chaos, confusion, and sudden song being belted out by the barkeep, Ygritte knew her time at the Inn was done. The silver haired Queen was reunited with her two knights, and they would protect her from the hunched old man. It was time for Ygritte to slip out. As she turned slowly toward the door, she scanned the room for anyone new and spied the clackity armor of the lord of bones standing at the entrance, blocking the doorway.

The barkeep was done with his song and back behind the bar. She walked over to him, leaned close and whispered “You have a back door outta here?”

~tears filled my eyes, I felt like I was home ~ I went to Ser Jorah, and wrapped my arms around him, burying my face in his woolen sir coat. Looked up at him, I said softly, “I’m so sorry, I should have listened. I..you were trying to warn me, I was just to proud to listen”.
Ser Barristan, I thank you for you loyal service, you have been so very good to me ~smiling~, I knew he had never given up his search. The Bold Knight, fell back into his role, with much ease, I almost pitied the Maester.
I was unable to release my grip on Ser Jorah, afraid that if I did he would disappear, we had both paid the price for our stubborn ways.

How strange it was to see Wildlings, Northerners, Priestesses and knights all in one place, peaceful, if not for the disturbance, caused by myself. I thanked the red haired girl for her help and watched her quietly slip away.
“Ser Barristan” I called, “would you mind if I spoke with Ser Jorah for a moment, I promise to return” ~. I would not part ways with my trusted friends again~. “Ser Jorah, I have much and more to tell you, please come and speak with me” .
